OCTOBER MEETINGS

The theme for our October meetings was Thanksgiving, and once again we were too busy wielding our hooks to get any pictures of the cute turkeys and other items we were making!
We also discussed the upcoming election of officers that will happen at the November meeting, and the Christmas Party scheduled for December 21.
See you at the November meeting!

Pattern testers please?

Hi Guild members!

I have written up a pattern for a baby cap and am looking for a few people to test it for me. I think I've got it, but I know exactly what I mean with each of the rounds I've written, but I'm not sure anyone else can understand it! If you are interested in testing the pattern, will you please send me an e-mail at corih2obug(at)yahoo(dot)com? I will send you a PDF of the pattern. Thanks!

Kim Guzman's class in Topeka

There were five of us signed up for the trip, but two canceled out at the last minute, so we three remaining gals all went in my car. We had a wonderful time! Arriving in Topeka a few minutes early, we found a cute little restaurant and ordered meals to go so we could eat in the car and not be late for our class. We had no trouble locating the building; Tracie, the leader of Topeka Crochet, met us at the door. Everyone was so friendly, and they even had a tableful of goodies for us to snack on. Kim Guzman is an excellent teacher, and took us step by step through all the stitches and the felting instructions we would need to complete our felted bags (Kim, I got impatient and finished felting mine in the washer). Everyone was friendly and welcoming and I even won a door prize of one of Kim's books!! And silly me forgot to have her sign it; I think I'll mail it to her with a SASE and a note begging her to sign it for me.

Needless to say, I am now hooked on Tunisian and can't wait to make more of these bags with my feltable yarn, then go on to try another pattern – maybe one from the book I won!
Thank you, Kim, for your super class; and thank you, Tracie, for inviting KS My Stitch members!! Rosina

September 21, 2009 Regular Meeting

Wow, I almost let the October meeting sneak up on me before I got last month's meeting posted. In September we worked on some cute little Halloween patterns for ghosts, spider webs, and pumpkins. We were so busy, we only got one pic of our efforts – and Audrey looks scared to death of her ghost!

Do you remember the neat wooden hooks that Cori and Pam got on ebay? They are back! Pam has asked me to list the URL here so she doesn't have to buy all those gorgeous hooks. :)

Really, they are beautiful hooks, definitely worth a look.

KIM GUZMAN'S TUNISIAN CLASS OCT 11!!

More information on Kim Guzman's class in Topeka!
This info is directly from Tracie at TopC, the CGOA chapter in Topeka:

When? - Sunday, October 11 at 2 p.m.
Where? - That will be determined on Monday.
Cost? - $10 + cost of materials (which each person has to bring with them). The project will be a small bag.
Open to Public? No, not in the sense that it will be advertised and anyone can just come in. It's for the members of Topeka Crochet & their guests, as well as the Wichita CGOA chapter. But exceptions can be made.
How to Register? Those attending need to register through me, so I can keep a head count. I've asked the members of Topeka Crochet to pay by Sunday's meeting on October 3rd, but it may be easier for those driving from Wichita to pay Kim when they get here. There needs to be at least 10 people attending for the class to take place, so I need to know ahead of time how many are coming.

Tracie NEEDS a head count by October 3!
It would be lots of fun to form a caravan from Wichita. If you want to attend the class, let me know. Rosina

10/02/09 UPDATE: I have room for 3 more in my car if you do not want to drive! Rosina

FALL RIVER RETREAT!!!!!

Rather than post the photos here on the blog, I have created an album for you to view some of the photos of our retreat weekend. The photos are great, but they do not begin to show how much fun we all had. We are so grateful to Jinna for her hospitality, and for both Jinna and Tamara for bringing this all together for us!!!!

JULY 20, 2009 MEETINGS

SHELLY STILGER

Program: This month we were delighted to have Shelly Stilger, owner of Twist Yarn Shop, tell us all about felting. Shelly touched on needle felting briefly, then went on to explain the best yarns for felting, how and why the fabric felts, what you can do with your felted projects, how to block them, and much, much more!! Thank you, Shelly, for a very interesting and inspiring presentation. For those of you in the morning meeting who did not receive Shelly's handout, here is a link to that information: http://www.twistyarnshop.com/felting.pdf

We had a total of 39 members and guests at both meetings agan this month; that is our second highest attendance. We are growing, thanks to you all spreading the word, and thanks to Tamara for being such a dynamic leader and enthusiastic representative of all things crochet. Leisure Arts is sending Tamara to the "Knit and Crochet Show" in Buffalo, NY in August, as their representative for Crochet Soiree; you all know by now that Tamara writes the blog for Leisure Arts' Crochet Soiree website: http://www.crochetsoiree.com/. Wish her well!!
Kudos to our own graphic artist and chapter Vice President, Wendy, for our new chapter logo! Isn't it awesome? You can see it on the left side of this page, directly above the CGOA logo. Thank you for a great job, Wendy!!
Show & Share: One of my favorite parts of our meetings! (Click on any photo to enlarge it.)

Refreshments! Of course we cannot go very long without eating, can we? And this month we had mouth-watering treats again. Doesn't this all look delicious???

Door Prizes! We had some wonderful prizes to give away again this month! It is so much fun when lots of people donate prizes; it gives us all a better chance to win something.

JUNE GUILD MEETINGS

Wow, we had 39 members and guests at both meetings. Isn't that fabulous? And as usual we had tons of lovelies to drool over and admire. The program this month was Patriotic, so we made coasters, stars, flags, etc. with our red, white and blue yarns/threads. There was a wonderful collection of door prizes, "Thank You" to everyone who brought something! And shall we mention the food?? Lots and lots of yummy treats to please any taste — a big "Thank You" to those who brought food as well.
We all had a really fun time. Remember to let Tammy know if you want to sign up for the retreat this summer, and get your fee to her ASAP. Keep hookin', ladies and gentlemen, we love to see your projects!
Read the entries below for the rest of the story...

Granny Square Bunting pattern

Everyone loved the bunting pattern that Susie K is making, so she sent the name of the booklet it is in:
Coats&Clark 1971'booklet no.213, Fashions for Baby
Thank you, Susie~

Recipes!

We all raved over Sue W's goodies, so she sent the recipes to post. Thank you, Sue!

Curried Couscous Salad with Dried Cranberries - June

1 1/2 c. uncooked couscous (about 1 - 10 oz. box) or I used Quinoa which is gluten-free.
1 c. dried cranberries (about 4 oz.)
1 c. frozen green peas (I used fresh that had been blanched)
1/2 tsp. curry powder
1/4 c. thinly sliced green onions (or red onions)
1/4 c. finely chopped fresh basil (I used dried this time so used less)
1 can chickpeas (garbanzo beans) drained (I used some that were dried and I cooked them)

Dressing:

1/3 c. lemon juice
1 tbsp. grated orange rind (I didn't put that in this time)
1 tbsp. water
1 1/2 tbsp. olive oil
1 tbsp. thawed orange juice concentrate
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
4 garlic cloves, crushed

As you can see, this is not a super exact recipe! I think the dressing is the main thing to get right.
Couscous can be cooked by pouring 2 c. boiling water over it and letting it sit 5 minutes, fluffing with a fork. The quinoa has to be cooked but not long. Follow directions on the package. Assemble all ingredients, mix up dressing and combine. Let it chill for at least an hour to meld the flavors. It lasts in the refrigerator several days. (Unless it gets eaten!)

Chard and Cheese Pie - May

1-1/2 bunches Swiss Chard or Spinach (package of fresh). May use 10 oz. of frozen too.

2 c. cottage cheese
2 eggs, beaten
Juice of 1 lemon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. Parmesan cheese
1/2 c. bread crumbs or sesame seeds
Paprika

Wash chard, cut in bite-sized pieces. Cook quickly in heavy pan, add no water, stir constantly until wilted, drain very well. Preheat oven to 350. Beat together 1st 5 ingredients. Stir one cup of this into chard. Put into greased 9 x 9 pan (or double and use 9 x 13 pan) and press down firmly with fork. Spread remaining mixture evenly over top and sprinkle with bread crumbs and paprika. Bake 30 min. or until set. Let stand several minutes before cutting into squares and serving. May be eaten warm or cold.
Show & Share - Once again, I apologize if I left someone out. There are so many projects to show!!! Click on the pictures for a larger view:

Tapestry Crochet - Tamara taught a tapestry crochet class earlier this month. Here are some of the results of that class.
Program: Patriotic
Wendy provided an assortment of patriotic patterns, and we all got busy with them. Here are just a few of our creations.

Door Prizes!
We had oodles of great door prizes this month. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes, they were wonderful! Here are some of them.

IN MEMORY OF LEE WEBSTER

We are so very sad to announce the passing of one of our guild members, Lee Webster. Lee passed away in her sleep last Tuesday night, June 16, 2009, after having attended a meeting of the Delano Neighborhood Association earlier that evening. Many of you know that Lee was Vice President of the Delano Neighborhood Assn. and Distrist IV advisory board member. Lee was an avid supporter of all things Delano! We loved having Lee at our meetings; she was always so quick-witted and never took herself too seriously. Learning a new stitch or technique was always an adventure to Lee. The last several times Lee attended a guild meeting, she was busy crocheting scarves and helmet liners for our troops in the Mideast. We love you and we will miss you, our friend!

MAY 18 MEETINGS

Oh, my goodness, if you missed the May meetings, you missed soooo much fun! This month we had different programs at each meeting; see the highlights below.
Also, Cori clued us in on a new British crochet magazine titled, "Inside Crochet;" she found her copy at a local bookstore and loves it. Pam encouraged us to visit ChezCrochet.com for some great online crochet classes. And we had some super Tips-of-the-Month at both meetings!
Tamara took tons of pictures; I'm sure I will not be able to post them all here but I will try to get in as many as I can. Below are just a few highlights of both meetings.

May 18 Morning Meeting

Susie taught us how to Needle Felt! I think I'm in love!! It is easier to do than I imagined, too. Now to find some of those elusive wool sweaters at the thrift shops...

Susie insists she did not crochet her sweater, but it is too awesome not to show a picture of it:

Some of us practicing our needle felting. Fun!!

May 18 Evening Meeting

Wendy taught the evening program, "Crocheted Ring Bracelets." She made a gorgeous model to inspire us. Click on pictures for a larger view.

Some of the bracelet-makers...

Show and Share -- May 18

Wow! How cute is this?? Susan and her alligator scarf!

Sharon has been one VERY busy lady! She also knitted a beautiful scarf, but I couldn't fit the picture in.
(She swears she has not been abused, she has a rambunctious new puppy :)

Pat says she wanted to take a break from her "hard" projects and do something simple so she decided on a tissue box cover. Pretty yarn!

Linda finished her reversible hearts afghan! As you can see, one side is red hearts on a white background, and the other side is a ripple afghan. Fascinating!

I just had to make Nessie, the Loch Ness monster for my 3rd granddaughter. She loves "monsters." The Easter basket and eggs were an "Annie's Attic" freebie.

Paula is hiding behind the shawl she is crocheting. I like the color combination!

Kathy is a friend of Lucy, and we were happy to welcome her to our group. She has been making pretty potholders.

Sue has been busy creating these beautiful delicate circles!

Cheryl admits she is addicted to this pattern. And every one she makes turns out even more beautiful than the previous one. Isn't this one just precious? Can you see the raised hearts in the stitches?

Tammy always has tons of things to show us for "Show and Share." Here are some dolls, a frog, and the strawberry freebie at Crochet Soiree this week.

Lee is our newest member. We are so happy she joined us! She showed us the beautiful doilies she has learned to make.

Donna designed the tote, isn't it great? And she just needs a tad more yarn to finish the lacy baby afghan.

Jinna made the prettiest neck warmer for a friend!

Cori has been busy knitting and crocheting scarves again!

These pretty little circles were made by Summer, one of Susie's daughters.

CHARITY PROJECT - March session

Good morning, all! Yesterday was the second session of our charity project for 2009. As you know, our project this year is teaching crochet to residents of Wichita Children's Home. We were assigned to the older teen girls in the Independent Living section of the home. These young women are learning to live independently in the community.

Kelly, Mary, Sharon, Tamara and I (Rosina) took our yarn and hooks and eagerly headed out yesterday for the opportunity to help others learn the craft we all love so much. I was unable to participate in February, so did not know what to expect. I was so glad that we were greeted warmly and enthusiastically by the girls. Some had prior experience with crochet and just needed to be shown things like how to turn, how to finish off, etc. Others were new to crochet, but all were polite and seemed happy to have us there. Tamara was challenged by teaching a "leftie," but her student bravely persevered and worked until the end — and she is getting it, slowly but surely.

One young man in the Independent Living program even made tea and served it to us on a tray with china cups and saucers! How special is that??

As we were packing up to leave after over 1½ hours of teaching, chatting and laughing, they wanted to know how soon we were coming back. They seemed genuinely disappointed to hear we were only scheduled for once a month. And we had attracted several pleasant young men (whom I suspect were not there for the lesson), and a few staff members.

I have never touted my teaching skills (or lack thereof), and had no idea if I would even be useful in this situation, but it was a very worthwhile afternoon for me. I am looking forward to being there again next month; I honestly believe these girls are giving to us every bit as much as we are giving to them! Understandably, we are not allowed to take pictures or I would flood this article with photos of us and these lovely young people.

If this is something in which you would like to participate, please take note of the announcement at April's meeting for times and dates. It was a very rewarding experience!!

March KS My Stitch Meeting

Hello Fellow Crocheters!

It's that time of the month again. My report on the March meeting. Well, we started off with the usual short business meeting. Announcing that it is National Crochet Month and to let everyone know that the guild was again allowed to use Twist windows to display some of our artwork. I also mentioned that the Wichita Eagle (daily newspaper) posted an article about KS (Kiss) My Stitch. We had 4 guests in the morning meeting and 6 in the evening. I think this was our largest groups so far. I talked about the charity classes on Saturday. We would be teaching the girls in the Independent Living group. This is where the Wichita Children's Home teaches the girls life skills and how to live on their own. New business was next month's program will be crocheted flowers and we also had some pretty colorful bookmarks advertising KS My Stitch with all of the pertinent information on them. We encouraged members to pick some up so that when they were talking about the guild they would have something to hand to people that had never heard of our guild. Announcements were: We are going to Hutchinson on a field trip on Saturday, April 18. We are asking that each person pay $5 to split between the drivers for gas, then you will need to bring spending and lunch money. I had a sign up sheet available, so far we have 13 people signed up. It should be lots of fun. We will visit 2 yarn shops and a bead shop. There are also lots of antique stores if anyone is interested. And of course we will be eating lunch at a little Cafe on Main Street. I always ask if there is a tip of the month and this month was no exception. Except I was the only one that had a tip. I learned a little lesson in gauge. I have to confess that I don't always make a gauge, unless I am making a garment. Well I decided to make the Lace Tote from a Leisure Arts Book called "Enviro-Totes". This time I checked my gauge which was (Rnds 1-4 = 3 1/2"). I measured 1-4 rows and thought oh well it is only 2" no big deal, it will just be smaller. Well people the way you measure gauge for rounds is different than measuring rows. For rounds you measure across and through the center to the other side to round 4. I found that out from a friend of mine that hangs out at Twist on Thursday nights. My bag is twice the size that it is supposed to be and ended up to be a GIANT bag. But, I love it anyway. The picture doesn't show how really big it is, but I can fit a twin size afghan in it.

Then of course we have show and share, so here goes:

Paula brought her daughter Susan's afghan to show everyone. Susan made it for her son. Very nice Susan.

Kay didn't bring anything to show but we were so glad to have her back.

Linda G. is working on a scarf made off of Cori's pattern. Very nice job Linda.

Donna was one of our guests. She confessed to me that she had been a KS My Stitch blog stalker for a while and had wanted to join us some time. She found out she could join us in the morning since she is a teacher and the guild meeting landed on a day during spring break. Donna also learned a lesson in gauge. She made this poncho for a 3 year old and she said she would be lucky if it fit on an infants head. Good try Donna.

Donna went on a quilt retreat a couple of weekends ago with her mother's (Lisa Johnson) quilt shop (Picket Fence Quilt Company)and made a case to hold her knitting needles (even her circular ones). Great job Donna! We are so glad you could join us!

Pam made some adorable crocheted dresses with matching hats. (I believe they are for her granddaughters?)

Sharon made a cute camera case.

This is Sharon's knitted afghan.

Susie got the news that she is going to be a Grandma again, this time it is going to be a girl. She got the embellishing bug and added some edging and flowers to some little dresses. Great Job Susie.

Mary was knitting hats that have wolves on them to donate to a charity auction. Mary is quite the charity queen.

Jinna was able to join us again and she has been very busy trying to use all of her stash of yarn. Beautiful shawl Jinna.

Jinna and her hat and muffler.

Another shawl made by Jinna.

Lucy's Pink Shawl

Lucy's Green Blue Shawl

Pat is into bags this month.

Another bag by Pat.

Linda C. brought her daughter Sharon and this is the baby afghan that Sharon is working on. So glad you could join us Sharon.

Linda's beautiful shamrock doily.

Cheryl is making a very large granny square afghan.

Sharon was one of our guest too (no it's not the same Sharon, it was very funny we had 3 Sharons), anyway she brought her washcloth bath puff. Very cool!

Paula brought one of her green leaf irish crochet doilies to show us.

It was very nice to see Lee again and that she recovered from her hospital stay. She also brought a friend.

Stephanie embellished a cute little quilted heart with some crochet. I am beginning to think that she likes to poke holes in things too. Way to go Steph!

Sue has been poking holes in some rick rack and I told you that she would have this done for this meeting. But this is great because she is wearing it too.

And then there's Jackie. I wanted to make everyone think that she was crocheting, but she's not wearing that thimble on her finger to crochet with. She's actually embroidering. I think I will have to take that blanket and finish it for Baby Ava before the baby is a teenager. But look how pretty she looks and she's my Sister and I love her anyway.

Kelly is crocheting a bag too. But she was in on the lesson about gauge so she learned before she started the bag. She will not be making the same mistake I did.

Isn't this the cutest little Lepraucan (sp?)? It is called a flat doll. But he has a teeny tiny sweater, pants, and hat with a shamrock on it. Diane brought this cute little doll and she was one of our visitors. We were glad to have you Diane.

Geralyn knitted a washcloth.

Geralyn is crocheting a hat.

Wendy made a shamrock for the program.

Rosina is wearing her pretty little crocheted shamrock pin. Very nice and irish.

Lesa made a little crochet bag.

Cori finished another one of her scarves from her own design.

Then it was time for the program on making shamrocks. I think everyone had a great time. I know I did. Here are some random pictures of all who joined in on the making of shamrocks.

No. Wes was not actually crocheting. That is my shamrock. Wes is Geralyn's fiance.
Thank you to all that came to the meetings and to the people who donated things for the door prizes. (Linda C, Kay, Rosina, Susie, and Wendy)
Thank you also, to the people that brought treats. (Mary, Paula, and Cheryl) And until we meet again. Happy Crocheting! Tamara

February Charity Activities

Rosina started out with contacting the CGOA Message board for donations of hooks and what a great response she had. Hooks came flying to her from all over the country and some yarn too. I contacted the Wichita Childrens Home last year to see if there was any interest in us coming and teaching the children to crochet. The counselor reassured me that there was. We set aside this month to start and we had a great response. Wendy, Sharon, Kelly, Cheryl, Pam and I went to the Wichita Childrens Home to teach 11 young ladies to crochet. Rosina was unable to make it because she was too ill. I hope you are feeling better Rosina. The guild provided each young lady a package with a ball of cotton yarn, hook, and instructions on all the basic stitches. We only had about an hour with them. Some of them were very reluctant to start, but went ahead and tried. I could see the lightbulbs going off all across the room when one would get it. There were 2 of them that had crocheted before and caught on really fast. I can not tell you how rewarding it was for me to see their faces and how they were surprised that they actually got to keep the hooks and yarn. We will be going back next month and doing the same thing again. Hopefully we will get to see some of the same young ladies and help them along to the next steps. Some of them won't be there and we will see new faces. I also talked to their counselers to see if any of the boys would like to learn, so I will call them in a few weeks to see if there is any interest and hopefully we will be teaching some of the boys too. Thank you to all for helping us make this happen.

February 2009 Meeting

Hello Fellow Crocheters!
We started our meeting off with the short business meeting. We discussed old business, which included dues and the classes that we would be teaching on Saturday. I had a sign up sheet for whoever wanted to join in on the teaching activities. We had new business, which included more signup sheets for members to sign up for like Charity, Events, Programs, Membership, Buget and Bylaws committees. We actually got a few more people to sign up from the last meeting. Now we will just have to organize committee meetings for all of these. We discussed the window display that Stephanie, Wendy and I are creating at Twist. I had some people bring some of their colorful doilies so we could use them to display as flowers and of course we have our masterpiece that we worked on in January and February. I just need to assemble it now so that we can hang it in the large window. Please remember to stop by and look at the windows when you are in the neighborhood or if you just want to make a special trip that would be ok too. Next months program has not been decided yet, but we will keep you posted on that. We had our secret pal drawing, so remember to bring something for your secret pal at next months meeting. We had an announcement about one of our members Lee, she is back in the hospital with congestive heart failure and Pam was kind enough to take some flowers to her and visit with her after the morning meeting. Lee we are all praying that you make a speedy recovery and are able to join us next month. That leads us to Show and Share:

Sue has the rick rack bug that I showed her a couple of months ago. She is using it to embellish her top. Next month I bet she will be wearing it to the meeting! Very nice Sue!
Kelly didn't have anything to show but she is so pretty I had to take a picture of her and she was ready to start crocheting on our masterpiece for the Twist windows.
Krista is pretty and ready to help with the masterpiece also.
Stephanie has been hanging out with my sister again and gathered some scraps to make her first quilt. I love the colors she chose and what a great job of piecing and machine quilting Steph.
I made myself a crochet hook case from an overfelted sweater cut up and some of my scraps of fabric.
Of course I had to embellish my hook case with crocheted flowers.
I crocheted a scarf out of bamboo and nylon sock yarn. Oh, it is so soft. The pattern was from the latest Interweave Crochet magazine. The one that was in the magazine was made from lace weight yarn. This pattern was very fun and easy, it was just a one row repeat and the yarn is self striping.
Mary is making a knitted baby bunting.
Pam has made a crochet on the double cloth.
Pam has been busy making receiving blankets with crocheted edgings.
Linda is making a heart afghan.
Linda brought another beautiful doily that holds candle votives. She has actually lit the candles too.
Lucy's baby blanket.
Lucy made a shawl for a friend.
Another baby blanket by Lucy.
Robbie is already starting on her Christmas towels.
The stack of scarves made by Cheryl.
Cheryl is getting a headstart on Christmas too by making some scarves.
Cori has chosen some wonderful alpaca yarn to make her next scarf.
Cori is making another one of her own scarf pattern.
Sharon and her giant granny square afghan.
Paula is knitting her friend a neck and shoulder warmer.
Paula brought Susan's afghan that folds into a pillow. Amazing!
Kaye has made a fleece blanket edged in crochet. Very pretty and soft.
Linda is making Cori's scarf out of her favorite colors.

Johnnie brought her knitted swaddler that Pam showed her how to make. Johnnie brought her friend to check us out and we want to thank her for that.
We ended our meeting with the door prize drawing and thank you to Lucy, Cheryl, Pam, and Linda C. for donating all the great prizes. We also drew for the felted bag and Wendy was the winner. Congratulations to Wendy, you lucky duck!!!! See all of you next month.
Happy Crocheting!

Cori's scarf pattern

Just a couple of quick notes on the pattern. First, the yarn called for is a 420-meter skein, and I used pretty much the whole thing except for about 4 or 5 yards. So if you want a scarf that is as long as I made mine, you'll need at least that much yarn. Second, you can really use any lightweight yarn for this pattern and a slightly larger hook will make a lacier pattern, a little wider, but maybe not quite as long. Lots of options for this pattern and it is an easy one to memorize! I will post photos as soon as I can get the Internet to cooperate and load them.

Here it is for all of you who asked for it:

Nancy’s Waves Scarf
Finished Size: 6 ½” x 72” blocked
Yarn: Noro Kureyon Sock Yarn (70% wool/30% nylon; fingering weight; 100 grams; 420 meters) or any sock weight yarn
Hook: Hamanaka 6.00/U.S. E (3.5)
Notions: Yarn needle
Gauge: Gauge is not important to this project
Abbreviations used (this pattern is written using American crochet terms):
Ch: chain
St: stitch (sts: stitches)
Sc: single crochet
Hdc: half-double crochet

Dc: double crochet
Trc: treble (or triple) crochet
Blo: back loop only

* Stitch pattern adapted from mypicot.com
(http://www.mypicot.com/crochet_patterns_mc1005.html)

Instructions:
Ch 34.
Row 1: sc in second chain from hook and each ch across (33 sts).

Row 2: Ch 1; turn. Sc in same st and next st. *Ch 1, skip next stitch, hdc in next st; ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st; ch 1, skip next st, trc in next stitch; ch 1, skip next stitch, trc in next st; ch 1, skip next st, dc in next stitch; ch 1, skip next st, hdc in next stitch*; ch 1, skip next st, sc in next three sts. Repeat from * to * once; ch 1, skip next st, sc in last two sts.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in same st, and in each st and chain-1 space across.

Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in blo of same st; sc in blo of each st across.

Row 5: Ch 4 (counts as first trc), turn. Trc in next st. Ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st; ch 1, skip next st, hdc in next st; *ch 1, skip next st, sc in next three sts; ch 1, skip next st, hdc in next st; ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st; ch 1, skip next st, trc in next st*; ch 1, skip next st, trc in next st; ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st; ch 1, skip next st, hdc in next st. Repeat from * to * once; trc in last stitch.

Row 6: Ch 1, turn. Sc in same st, and in each st and chain-1 space across.

Row 7: Ch 1, turn. Sc in blo of same st; sc in blo of each st across.

Repeat rows 2-7 until scarf is desired length, ending with a Row 3 row. Finish off. Using yarn needle, weave in ends.

NOTE: I think this pattern could easily be adapted to any weight yarn using an appropriate size hook and knowing that the scarf would obviously be wider with a heavier-weight yarn.

January 2009 Meeting

Hello Everyone! Wow another year has begun and I am so excited about what we have planned for the year. First of all we started out with our usual meeting of old business, which is the $25 a year dues, and something really exciting is that we will be drawing for a really cool bag made by my friend Cass Carson. She makes bags out of felted wool sweaters. She made this one specially for the KS My Stitch Crochet Guild. I packed it full of yarns that Shelly Stilger from Twist had donated to the Ya Ya Sales last year and a few things that I picked up along the way. Here is a sneak peek at the bag. The drawing is for anyone that has paid their dues for the year before the end of the January meeting. Then we talked about the Charity Workshop. I have been talking with the activities director of the Wichita Childrens Home to gather a group of children that would like to learn to crochet and then I will organize some members and friends to go over to the Childrens Home and teach them. We are still trying to come up with a date and time. More to come on that. We had some new business to discuss regarding volunteers to sign up for committees. Charity and Events Committees are mine. Program Committee is Wendy. Membership Committee is Rosina. Tamara, Rosina, and Wendy are all on the Budget Committee. Rosina is heading up the Bylaws Committee. We had a few people sign up and I am so proud of all who did. We still need more people to come forward to work with us on all of these committees. It takes everyone of us to be a successful organization. We will be displaying some of our crochet pieces in the windows of Twist again this year for March, which happens to be National Crochet Month. Thank you to Stephanie for volunteering to come up with the display theme. We will need a lot of brightly colored doilies and please bring them to the February meeting for us to use in the display. We will do door prizes again this year so please feel free to donate things that you just had to make and don't know what to do with them or if you want to make something and donate it, that would be great too. Susan donated a whole afghan this month, we had our lovely doilies and butterfly magnets donated by Linda, and Sharon donated some neat things like book marks, crocheted hanger and I can't remember the other thing but it was cool. Darn I hate it when that happens. I forgot to take a picture of the donated items, sorry Sharon. But thank you to all that donate we all appreciate it. We are going to do Secret Pals again this year and we are limiting it to members only. We had a copy of CGOA January Newsletter for people who don't have email to read if they wanted. Rosina had sent out the link to the newsletter before the meeting. Thank you Rosina!

I know you all have been waiting for the Show and Share, so here it goes:
Linda is making a Mother and Baby Prayer Shawl. Beautiful job Linda.

Sharon made a cool bag.

Cori made a very soft hat and cowl from alpaca, a neat wash cloth that she just loves, and her new scarf pattern that is her own design.

Paula is making booties from my Toot's Crochet Bootie pattern and adding her own top to the bootie. She also finished a beautiful baby afghan.
Susie is just amazing with all that she is making and has made. She made a granny square jacket, felted bag with flowers, and now is making a granny square afghan. I think she is hooked on flowers, what do you think? That's ok Susie I love flowers too.

Pat is making a beautiful ripple afghan that looks like ordinary ripple on one side and on the other it has hearts. Sorry I didn't get a very good picture of it and didn't get the heart side. I think someone needs to fire the photographer.
Cheryl is working on a beautiful afghan that reminds us of a navajo blanket stitch. But it makes a heart design. Very nice Cheryl. Cheryl is one our new members. Welcome to our group.
Pam made a very neat knitted baby swaddler. It just amazes me how the yarn can do that pattern.
This is the cutest family of snowman, woman and children that I have ever seen. Rosina has knitted her oldest daughters entire family into snow people. They are so adorable!
Linda C. has done it again. Kitties in the round. You just amaze me with your talent and your stitches are so even. Beautiful!
Kay made a wonderfully big crocheted bag and Kay is one of our newest members. Thank you for joining our group Kay.

Well it looks like I went a little overboard with pillows this last month. I got on a pillow kick and haven't been able to stop. I made some pillows out of skirts, then I found some beautiful fabric at Charlotte's Sew Natural in Newton and had to make pillows and add crochet to them. Then I made a little owl and then made a big owl, and a shawl from the Crochet Today magazine. (I love Crochet Today) Then I tested Cori's pattern out on some yarn that is called Sockotta. I had such a good time making this scarf. Cori I think you have a hit pattern.

I just love how Steph has made her scarf. Just think I have been trying to get Steph hooked on crochet for about a year, and who would've thought that all she needed was the inspiration that she got from Nicky Epstein's Crocheted Flowers book. There's no stopping her now. Another one hooked, Yippee!
Lee is back and I finally caught her not moving. We're glad you are feeling better Lee. Lee is working on a crochet on the double scarf to send to the military soldiers.

This is so neat to see people making booties from my Toot's Crochet Bootie pattern. I love seeing all the different colors of yarn that they choose. Kelly you are doing a great job and I know you will enjoy making many more pairs.

Sue gave this fabric to me that she wove herself during the Ya Ya Sale last year, she thought I could make something with it or she knew I would have to embellish it. But little did she know that she would get the piece of fabric back. Sue was my secret pal last year and for her final gift of the year I embellished the fabric and then she made a wonderful skirt out of it. Sue it looks very good on you and I am so glad you like it. Sue also made a scarf from the November program on International Symbols. It looks great.

Paula also made a scarf from the International Symbols program. I love how that looks.

This work of art is by Linda C. and her secret pal was Susan. Susan couldn't be at the December meeting so she got her last gift of the year from Linda. Linda you do such a wonderful job.

This is just one of the squares of Susan's afghan that she is working on. I wonder if we will see the finished project next month?

Last but not least we did the coolest thing during our program. Wendy came up with this idea for our January and February programs. Everyone brought yarn and a hook and then we started a timer and you had 15 minutes to start a project, then the timer went off and you cut your yarn and handed it to the person on the right, they picked up with their yarn and began to crochet for 15 minutes and so on and so on. Here is the pile of art that we came up with. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did, I know it took some people out of their comfort zone, but it made us think outside the box and that is always fun. Next month we will pick up these pieces and continue on and the finished items from next month will be connected and the masterpiece will hang in the window of Twist in the National Crochet month display for all to see. We may get some new people hooked! What do you think?

Happy Crocheting! Tamara

December Meeting and Christmas Party

We gathered at the Girl Scout Office, thanks to Krista (what a great place to have a party). We had a brief meeting with the installation of officers and gifts given to the outgoing officers. Three of the members crocheted the outgoing officers first initial (Paula, Krista and Linda C.) and then Sheri made a little keepsake box for each one of us. They are beautiful. Mary made a cat beaded ornament for Linda C. for all of the hostess and donating of items to the drawings every month. It is gorgeous Mary. Mary also brought along a table cloth that she helped her mother make when Mary was all of 8 years old. Queen Anne Lace with size 20 crochet thread and size 12 hook. It was amazing. Thank you for sharing that with all of us Mary. We also showed our designs for the design contest. Mary's curtains, Sue's childs dress and jacket, Cori's scarf and Tamara's jacket.
Sheri, Krista and Jinna conducted the Christmas party and activities. We had such a good time and Krista lead a fun game of guessing what size of hook is inside the numbered bags. It seemed like it would be easy, but it really isn't when you can't see them at all. It was a lot of fun though. Susie won with the most guessed right. Thank you Sheri, Krista and Jinna for making all of the Christmas party happen.

The new officers are Tamara, Wendy and Rosina. Outgoing officers were: Tamara, Rosina and Cori. Here are some of the pictures from our meeting, game and show and share. It has been such a fun year and I know that we will have fun next year too! See you next year! Hugs and Happy Crocheting! Tamara

November Meeting

Sheri is working on a scarf and wearing a scarf made by her secret pal, she tells us that her husband has really taken a liking to her secret pal scarf, so if it comes up missing we will know where she can look.

Susie has a basket full of goodies. From crocheted hangers, hats and lots of neat things. As soon as I have more time I want to make as many things as Susie does!

Paula's friend is working on her first crocheted hat. She is doing a great job!

Mary has been beading again. Her artwork is amazing. Mary also brought a box of hats & mittens that she has made for the hospital nursery neonatal unit. I think the box held 50 hats. Mary you are truly an inspiration to all of us. Mary was unable to attend the meeting that we learned the potholder stitch, so while we were at Twist one Thursday night I taught her how to do it and she brought her potholder that she had finished.

Rosina has made a cute snowman and a beautiful doily.

Linda C. has done it again with her popcorn stitch doily.

Pat is wearing a top that she has made and she is working on a jacket shawl.

I had to confess that I had knitted a scarf and hat while I was in Houston at the International Quilt Market and Festival. For some reason I just loved making the pom pom on the hat and wondered why I had never made one before. I also bought some silk yarn with sequins at the Festival in Houston and had just enough to crochet some trim on a recycled childs sweater. Then everyone wanted to know about the top and scarf that I was wearing. The top is made from a vintage bodice and my sister attached it to fabric and made me a baby doll top out of it. I love it. Thank you Jackie! The scarf is made from motifs that were supposed to be a sweater but never grew into one, so I sewed the motifs together and made a scarf out of them.

Every meeting we are blessed with items donated by some of our guild members. The November meeting was no exception. Linda C. donated doilies and butterflies as she did every meeting and look, it is the snowman that Rosina made. He was given away too. Thank you Rosina and Linda.

Jackie has been crocheting a scarf, imagine that, it is pink. One of her favorite colors.
Good job Jackie!

Sue is working on a headband warmer from the yarn that her secret pal gave her.

Wendy is working on a knitted blanket for her not yet born niece. We don't discriminate against knitters. Ha! Ha!

Geralyn is starting an afghan that I will be helping her with. The squares are not exactly square, but we are going to get to the bottom of that soon. Don't give up Geralyn!

Cori is working on a scarf made out of Noro sock yarn.

Susan's round and square afghans.

Paula's hats and scarf.

Lesa's baby sweater and completed afghan that she started last month. Good job Lesa.

Thank you Pam for teaching us how to read the international symbols and helping us understand the different symbols. I had a great time doing the scarf.

Happy Crocheting! Tamara

October Meeting

Dear KS My Stitch People:
I am so sorry that I haven't updated you in 3 months, but I have been rather busy with my 2 weeks in Houston in October, and then trying to catch up with my work at home and at my Full time job and Christmas and it goes on and on. Anyway I really don't have a very good excuse for not updating the blog. So here goes:
One of the hats with a flower for the Charity Workshop. Cori's fleece blanket with crochet around edge. Lesa is making a crochet green afghan. Krista made 2 potholders from the potholder stitch lesson in September. Kelly made a potholder too, she may have made more than one too. That was such a fun stitch to do and it was so amazing how it ended up being double thickness. Lee agreed to test out my pattern for an iPod holder and hers ended up being an eyeglass case. Thank you Lee for testing it for me. Lee has been ill so I want her to know that I want her to get well so she can come back and join us for our evening meetings. WE miss you! Linda C.'s beautiful flower afghan that she had started last month is now complete. Rosina finished her heart afghan and did a wonderful job. The start of my shell scarf. Jinna's peach shawl. Susie has been very busy with her crochet, from her beautiful alpaca wrap, crochet edge flannel baby blankets, and crochet trimmed sweater. Paula had her crochet beaded necklace on and she didn't think she had anything with her that was crochet. Of course last but not least Linda's amazing pumpkin, spider web, black cat doily. She is just something else with her doilies, I think every one will agree with me on that one.?.
The nominating committee came up with next years slate of officers and we voted on them and they are:
President: Tamara Gonzales
Vice President: Wendy McBride
Secretary/Treasurer: Rosina Smith
We also talked about our Christmas party and the plans were under way for finding a place and activities.
Happy Crocheting! Tamara

September Charity Workshop

Just a few pictures of everyone crocheting hats and pictures of the hats. Thank you to Paula, Susan, Susie, Pam, Kelly, Rosina, Krista, Wendy, Linda G. and Sharon for coming and making hats. All the children will be so excited when they get them. Krista is really photogenic but she gets tired of me taking pictures of her, so she was pointing her finger at me. It was too funny not to put it on here. Wendy just looked too darn cute not to include a few pictures of her in her hat. Thanks again! I think everyone had fun, I know I did!

Tamara

September KS My Stitch Meeting

Hi Again!
We started off with old news about the charity afghan donation, design contest and about next months program. We will be learning how to take care of our crocheted items. How to launder and store them presented by our very own Twist Yarn Shop owner Shelly Stilger (our hero). I can't wait. We love her so much for letting us meet at the yarn shop on the day that she is closed. Our new form of business was me appointing a committee to nominate the officers for the new year. Sheri Shoenebeck (morning) and Krista Wagner (evening) are co-chairing this committee and would welcome volunteers to help them with the nominations. Sheri has a form for everyone to fill out and give back to her. If you couldn't attend the meeting please email her or Krista at dschoenebeck@cox.net or kwagner@kansasgirlscouts.org to get a form. The officers this year are: Tamara Gonzales (President), Rosina Smith (Vice President) and Cori Dodds (Secretary/Treasurer). Rosina and I are willing to run for office next year, but Cori is not able to due to prior committments. Enough business.
Let's get down to the pictures and the fun things that everyone has been working on and of course thanks to Rosina we learned how to make the potholder stitch, which I forgot to take pictures of everyones things. Some of us made a coaster and others started an actual potholder. Hopefully everyone will bring their finished items to next months meeting. Thank you so much Rosina for all that you do!

Starting with Sheri. She is so photogenic and she is making such a nice vest with the softest yarn ever (baby alpaca).
Linda G. is working on her scarf project.
Pam is making a scarf out of the red flowers for an art project for City Arts where she has started teaching. Good luck Pam. Also I wanted to thank you for donating a portion of your novelty yarn for the door prize, what a nice thing for you to do.
Theresa made the crochet hook organizer that Pam found a link for on the web. Very nice touch of the big button. Love it Theresa.
Mary actually knitted herself socks which is very rare, since she is always making things for other people. You deserve it Mary.
Paula can't believe the difference in the feel of really good sock yarn that she splurged on from Twist. She might even become a yarn snob just like I have become. She is also finishing up a baby afghan.
Jinna has been very busy. What a great shawl and bag. I love the bowl that you made out of the bulky yarn that you got at the Ya Ya sale. She was a biggest spender. Thanks Jinna.
Linda C. you never cease to amaze me with your talent of going from yarn to thread. The green and white afghan is beautful and your flower squares are too. Thank you for all that you do for the guild from your hostess duties and your door prize donations. I think I can speak for everyone, thank you!

Lesa has been so diligent in finishing her afghan. Way to go Lesa. And what a cute cabled baby vest. I can't wait to see it when you are finished. It was also a pleasure to meet your beautiful children.
It's always fun to share the things that I have been working on throughout the month. From the crocheted button necklace, the crochet around edge of socks, crocheting on rick rack and my design for a crocheted iPod case/phone case/camera case. It will be a free pattern for the Yarn Shop Hop in October.
Wendy has been very busy finishing up the granny square afghan that she has been working on since the first of the year to give to a friend that is having a baby the end of this month. I love how she placed the different blocks. Good Job Wendy.
It's good to have Lee back with us after her long year of trying to recover from her illness. She is crocheting a sweater for herself. Everyone is so glad that you are feeling better and are able to come to the meetings again.
Wait, is that my sister crocheting? Jackie is very lucky to have won the cute little butterfly that Linda G. donated. And what a good job you are doing on your edging around the baby blanket for your little granddaughter due next month. Oh my gosh look what fabric she used for the blanket, it's none other than her very own fabric line (Sweetest Gifts). Great job Jackie I'm so proud of you for sticking with this project. I know you have wanted to hand it over many times to me and you haven't. Good job!
Sue is working on a dress/top for her granddaughter.
Please don't forget to look at the previous blog as I posted the picture of me donating charity afghans to the Wichita Children's Home Volunteer Coordinator.
Happy Crocheting!
Tamara

KS My Stitch Charity Donation

Hello Everyone!

Just me reporting to you about the charity donation. Thanks to alot of hard work from our guild members on making all of those impossible squares for our afghans as a group project and some of the beautiful work made by individual members into adult size and baby afghans, hats and scarves. I (with help from my loving strong husband) was able to go to the Wichita Children's Home and take a very large suitcase and another medium size suitcase full of these lovely things to drop off to a wonderful lady by the name of Beth Thummel (Volunteer Coordinator for the Children's Home). She was kind enough to let my husband take a picture of the long awaited event. Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped make this happen! I love you all!

Ya Ya Sale

Hello Crochet People!
Here are some pictures of the sale that we had on Saturday. These are some of the things that you missed out on: Lots of yarn and hand made items. The day before the sale our town received around 10 inches of rain in some areas. The day was nice and cool and overcast for the most of the day. We didn't have many people come but overall we had a wonderful day visiting, crocheting and eating. I had a good time and thank you to all that attended and helped out by bringing their yarn and crocheted items.

Hugs,
Tamara

August Charity Workshop

Hello!
We have chosen the Wichita Children's Home to be our charity. We have been making hats and scarves since about June or July. We keep getting more and more yarn donated to us which is a good thing. We started off with one large bag of yarn and just keep getting more and more. I decided in order to keep it seperated from my own stash of yarn that I would carry it around in the trunk of my car in a suitcase. So Wendy decided it should be called trunk yarn. It sounded good and it sounds like we have an old trunk that we keep this yarn in and it's really a car trunk that I keep it in. We have a good time figuring out which hat pattern to use and different yarns to use. Thank you so much for all of the people that have helped make this a successful workshop. Here are some of the pictures from the workshop. The people that joined us were Krista, her daughter Hannah, Wendy, Rosina, Cori, Kelly, Tamara and please look for a masked boy in the background that was trying to get Hannah's attention. He was so funny! I think we completed 6 hats in 2 hours. Way to go charity hat makers. And last but not least. Thank you to Shelly Stilger, owner of Twist Yarn Shop for letting us invade her space with our workshops and meetings. You are the greatest!

KS My Stitch August Meeting

Hello Again!
Sorry this is so late. I just wanted to tell everyone about the last meeting and the charity workshop. We had attendance of 10 people in the morning and 20 people in the evening. We have a great group ranging in ages from 26 all the way up to their 80's. And we all share the love of CROCHET! We started the meeting off with a brief meeting, then show and share, snacks and then Pam Everhart shared her knowledge of fibers. Thank you Pam it was very interesting and everyone enjoyed it. These are the pictures of show and share. Our members are some of the most talented people that I know and we do not discriminate against quilters or knitters. (Ha! Ha!) Keep up the good work. You will see bags that were made from the retreat workshop on how to place beading on a bag without stringing the beads first and some hearts from the retreat workshop. You will see Marge's beautiful baby afghans and the scarf that she donated to the Charity. Susie's great crochet felted boots, socks that she embellished with crochet and her first attempt at thread crochet made into a flower. Good work Susie! Pat's crocheted top and cell phone case. Rosina's beaded bag and hearts. Lucy's peach beaded bag. Wendy's granny square that she is diligently finishing before starting another project, way to go Wendy. Krista's knitted market bag. Linda's knitted scarf. Sharon's quilted bag that someone gave to her. Sue's beginning of a sweater. Paula's flower granny square. Robbie's towel embellished with crochet. Jeannie's afghan (she is the coordinator of blankets for Linus). Linda's pink doilie and green and white afghan. Cori's green purse. Lesa's beaded bag. Sorry Sheri I didn't get a good enough picture of your black baby booties, I caught you when you were moving and the picture was blurry. A sneakpeak of my notebook cover that I talked my sister into making for me. I brought the sweater and we both designed it. The spine is made with the buttoned front of a sweater and the inside has a pocket made with some of the ribbing and sweater fabric. Thank you Jackie for making my tired sweater notebook cover for me!

KS My Stitch First Annual Retreat

Hello Again! I just would like to report on the KS My Stitch First Annual Retreat. Oh my gosh we had a great time. Sheri was so kind to let us come and invade her beautiful home and do nothing but eat, crochet, visit, laugh, swim and sleep. I didn't want it to end. Hopefully we can get together and do it again some day! Rosina was having some problems with me taking pictures of her so I got the best shot of her as you will see in the pictures.

The first thing on the agenda was crochet and beaded clutch. Pam was sweet enough to instruct all of us on how to put this together. There were a couple of the attendees that completed this project. Lesa completed her black clutch before she left and Linda finished hers later. I am going to include the picture of Linda's as I was not with it enough to take a picture of Lesa's before she left. Thank you Pam for teaching us the technique of beading and crochet. While everyone continued with their bags I fried up the tacos and prepared the feast of homemade salsa, rice and beans. Everyone enjoyed the meal.

After we ate some of us wanted to continue the bag so we did that until around 2:00 or so, then Rosina started teaching the second workshop of making an intarsia heart. Crocheting with two colors of yarn and making a heart design with it. Guess who got their hearts done? Of course Lesa and Linda. We had a great time learning the intarsia method. Thank you Rosina for your lesson!

Then it was time for a swim, what a refreshing time. We did some syncronized swimming and lounging in the neighborhood pool. It was great! I love the water. If I could crochet in the water that would be where I would like to spend my summer is in the water crocheting!

Of course the next thing on the agenda was to eat dinner. Rosina had organized a pot luck dinner which included ceasar salad, pasta salad, meatballs, brownie taramisu, mandarin orange cake, appetizer of bread with pesto, chips and dip. The food was great and the company even better. Thank you to everyone for such a great meal.

Then it was movie time. Sheri finally gave up the remote to Wendy (the young person in the group that can work a remote) and we all watched Silk. This is not a movie that I would recommend to anyone to watch, but it wasn't the movie that counted as much as the commentary from the KS My Stitch members that was just unforgettable. Some of the members left to go home and the die hard members of Rosina, Tamara and Wendy stayed the night. We adjourned to our corners of the house around 11:30 pm and had a great nights sleep.

We all woke up about 6:30 and continued to visit, have coffee and crochet while Rosina prepared breakfast. We ate around 10:00. What a great breakfast Rosina prepared. We had a wonderful egg and sausage casserole, breakfast dessert, and big bowl of mixed fruit. I think I ate enough this weekend to last me the rest of the month. We gave back Sheri her home around 11:45 am. Thank you again Sheri for the use of your lovely home. What a great time we had!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KS My Stitch July Meeting

Hello! It's me again. Your friendly President of KS My Stitch, Wichita Chapter of the National Crochet Guild of America reporting to you on the July meeting.

We had a such a good time, talking, sharing and listening to a wonderful presentation given to us by the one and only Jackie Clark (MY SISTER). I think everyone learned some things and I for one had a great time. We even got to enjoy Shelly Stilger the owner of Twist the Yarn Shop where we meet every month. Shelly is our hero, she has allowed us to come into her shop on the day that she is closed to hold our morning and evening meetings. She will be in one of the pictures that I will try and post on here today. She is wearing two of my creations, a scarf and hat made out of Bamboo and Nylon (sock yarn). I just love it, it is so soft and was easy to work with. Well here goes, I am going to try and post some pictures again! Wish me luck! Have a great week and I will talk with you again after the very first KS My Stitch retreat on Saturday, August 2. We will have 2 workshops, Tacos by Me, swimming, crocheting, potluck, movie and breakfast on Sunday by Rosina. I can't wait.

Tamara

Me talking about my knitting project made with those teeny tiny circular knitting needles. It feels like you are knitting with toothpicks. Of course I had to add crochet to my cup coozy.

We had wonderful meetings on Monday. Now I am preparing to go to the Common Threads Quilt Show at Century II where the KS My Stitch Crochet Guild was asked to exhibit our crochet pieces. We have a double booth and it is on the end of the aisle. I hope to reach out to a lot of people and make them aware of our group meetings. All of us crocheters are not alone in our craft and I just want to let everyone know that! We have a great group and would love to have more people join us. There are some really exciting things coming up. More meeting pictures and some Quilt Show pictures. Please come and join us at the show.

Tamara's afghan from Susan

Since Tamara mentioned in her posts (and named me as the holder of the picture) the beautiful afghan that Susan made for her, I figured I ought to get the photo posted. So here it is. Susan did an amazing job on it, and Tamara loves it. It's a little hard to see in the picture, but the afghan is a hexagon shape.

Tamara's new camera bag.

Pat's knitted purse. Thank goodness we don't discriminate against knitters. Ha! Ha!

Stephanie's knitted purse, made from recycled fabric, buttons, & handles from another purse. Stephanie has entered her purse into a contest. If you go to http://www.makeitminemag.com/ under community click on "Challenge Gallery" you will see Steph's purse. We all wish you alot of luck! I think you have a winner.

Susan's finished afghan, you all may remember Susan was working on this afghan in the April meeting. Very nice Susan. Susan also made an afghan for me. It is a Grandmother's Flower Garden afghan and it reminds me of the Grandmother's Flower garden quilt that my Grandmother made. Thank you so much Susan, I love it! Cori has the pictures in her camera.

More May Photos

Pat's beautiful shawl.

Lucy's hanger cover. Lucy was not going to share anything until I told her I wanted to see anything that she had made. Then she had Pat go out to her car and bring in the great scrubbers that she crochets out of netting. She had a whole bag full of them and has orders through Christmas for the scrubbers. Good luck Lucy with that scratchy material.

Cori and her scarf and capelet that she completedthis month.

Rosina and her baby sweater and hat. They are adorable.

Mary and her preemie bonnets. Mary donates 12 preemie hats to one of the hospitals here in Wichita every month. Since I took over in January I am in charge of the charity functions of the KS My Stitch group, I think I have to step up my actitivities to keep up with Mary. She is truly a very special lady!

Linda and her beautiful pansy afghan she made for her daughter. Linda is our doily queen, she loves to work with thread and she loves Susan Bates hooks! Linda has donated prizes for our drawings that are held every meeting and I just won one of her wonderful doilies at the evening meeting. What a great prize. Thank you Linda!

Sheri found this great bedspread at a yard sale and couldn't pass it up. She was wanting ideas from us on what to do with it. I think the best one was to take off the extra pieces and use it as a shawl.

More to come next time!

Hello everyone! We had a such a good time at the May meetings, seeing new projects everyone had been working on for the last month and learning how to make the crocheted Schlep Bag. Thank you to Rosina for showing us. Of course we had some overachievers who couldn't wait until the meeting to put their bags together. These are some of the pictures of show and share and some of the overachievers' bags. Thank you to Pam for the wonderful treats, yummy carrot cake and brownies! We need the recipe for the carrot cake! More pictures to come.

May meeting reminder:

Hi everyone! I hope you are looking forward to our next meeting. We will be putting together a great schlep bag. The pattern is actually for Inga's Heukelbeutel bag. You can find the pattern here. And you don't have to use her square pattern; any square will work. Think about your weave and stretch and what you plan to use the bag for. You need 16 squares.

Date: Monday, May 19
Time: 10 a.m. to noon OR 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Place: Twist Yarn Shop (607 W. Douglas)

Questions: contact me at the e-mail address on the left sidebar of the blog. See you soon!

Tamara's Activities

This started out as the squares for my sister's KS My Stitch May Workshop. I knew she wouldn't be able to make them by the meeting, so I went ahead and made them. Then I realized she was going to the International Quilt Show in Portland, Oregon this week. So, I decided to go ahead and put them together, and embellish. I used some handles that I cut off of a purse that I found at the Value Center dowtown. And of course I couldn't just stop at the squares I had to embellish each one with a bullion stitch flower in the center of each one. Then it needed to be lined and have a closure. Anyway, she will be carrying me along with her to Portland (by way of this bag)!

Amugurmi Mr. Owl.

My First Knitted Baby Hat. With crocheted flowers and vine. Worn by a baby that was in the shop with her mother. Her mother wanted to knit one just like it. So I took pictures. Sorry I don't know the babies name though. But thank you mother for allowing me to take pictures of your little baby girl.

Amugurumi Mr. Penguin. I have been teaching classes on these little creatures and having a blast making them.

Jackie's Spring Market Restructured Shirt. She has not seen this or the bag yet. I am going to give them to her for Mother's day today so that she can hopefully wear it to market this week. Have Fun Jackie.

Wendy at the Charity Afghan Assembly Get Together. (She is our celebrity member)

Wendy and Kyle are two of our newest members to KS My Stitch Crochet Guild. They are also two of our youngest members and we are so pleased to welcome them to our group!

Wendy was recently featured on the cover of the WichiTalk, an insert to the Wichita Eagle newspaper that talks about some of the happenings in our city. She was making a broomstick lace afghan and they put her on the cover. We are so proud of her and all that she does. Thank you Wendy for being you!

Kyle is the son of Cori Dodds (Secretary/Treasurer of KS My Stich Guild). We are pleased to have him as a part of our group too. He is catching on fast and I will be excited to see what he decides to make next.

April meeting — Celebrate Spring!

Hey everyone,

Remember that April 21 is our next crochet guild meeting. Pam Everhart will be teaching some flower and leaf techniques to celebrate the fact that spring appears to actually have arrived for good. Probably not flowers that look exactly like these, but some flowers and leaves nonetheless.

Please bring yarn or thread (your preference) and appropriate sized hooks for your fiber.

We meet at Twist Yarn Shop at 607 W. Douglas in Wichita. Morning group meets from 10 to noon and evening group meets from 6:30 to 8:30.

See you there!

Call for flowers for Shelly

Shelly has put out a call for knitted and crocheted flowers for the next window display at Twist. Please check out her blog here.

And if you like to make flowers, and have some scrap yarn laying around (and who doesn't), think about a flower or a few for Twist's windows.

You can make them when you join us Saturday at Towne East mall for the "Hook-In." We'll be there from noon to 3 p.m. Bring a hook and help us put together our charity afghans . . . and make a flower or two! Hope to see you there!

Look at our windows!

Shelly gave the windows of Twist yarn shop over to the KS My Stitch chapter of CGOA. Tamara headed up the effort to collect items that exhibit some of the many ways crochet has influenced home and fashion design over the decades.
There are all kinds of great things in the windows, crocheted and vintage.
Doesn't it just make you feel at home?
Isn't the old bowling bag awesome? And how about the ripple afghan?
Don't you just want to go in the store, get a crochet hook and some great yarn and start stitching away? I sure do. Shelly does such a great job of supporting crocheters, and we just can't tell her how much we appreciate it! (Oh, and the afghan on the bed in this shot is one of the ones the guild made for a local charity.)

February meeting

I only got one picture taken before my camera battery died! The theme for the month was hearts and Valentine's, and look at the great doilies Linda Cooley made. Her thread crochet always amazes me.

We had a great time with Tamara sharing some of her way of thinking about embellishing everything in sight with crochet. She has a great eye for knowing how to add crochet and make something that would otherwise be plain into something really great.

So mark you calendar for our March meeting. We will meet at Twist on the third Monday in March, which is St. Patrick's day. So wear your green and bring your Irish crochet or something about Irish crochet.

And remember that March is National Crochet Month. We have crochet-outs at Towne East Mall and Towne West Mall. Here are the dates, locations and times:
March 1 and 8 at Towne West from noon to 3 p.m.;
March 22 at Towne East 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and
March 29 at Towne East from noon to 3 p.m.
Please try to join us at the mall food court on at least one of these dates.

FEBRUARY MEETINGS

Remember we are now meeting at TWIST YARN SHOP, 607 W Douglas. Please use the back door. We have refreshments and drawings for door prizes; if you don't come, you can't win. This month's program will be "Embellishing with Crochet," by our own famous designer and President, Tamara Gonzales. It will be a terrific program, so bring something you would like to embellish with crochet, and get some fabulous suggestions from Tamara!

Our theme for February is "Valentines," so bring something for Show and Share that relates to our theme.

Our Slipper Soiree is next Saturday evening, Feb. 23, at 7:00 pm at Rosina's house. Come in your jammies, bring yarn, hook and your favorite slipper pattern, and we will just have a low-key get-together.

March is NATIONAL CROCHET MONTH!!! Special events are planned to celebrate, so if you don't yet have your calendar of events, be sure to pick one up at Monday's meeting.

See you Monday!

First monthly afghan joining at Twist

As we announced at the January meeting, the guild will be hosting a charity afghan joining meeting each month on the Saturday following our regular guild meetings. We had our first one this month and we had several people come and help us.

We will meet each month at 1:30 p.m. on the designated Saturday at Twist. As you can see, Shelly has a comfortable area for us to sit, chat, work, have a cup of coffee or a can of pop, and continue the work on the afghans we are making for community organizations.

It's fun and relaxing, and chance to visit with other members of the guild, and you can drop in for as long as you want.

So, mark your calendar for the third Monday of the month, in February that is Feb. 18, for our guild meeting (also at Twist) and the following Saturday, in February that is Feb. 23, for afghan joining. We'd love to see you there!

January meeting — location change!

Hi all,

Just a reminder that our January meeting is coming up! We will meet from 10 a.m. to noon or from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (or both if that's your pleasure!) on Monday, Jan. 21. Please note that our meeting location has changed and we will be meeting at Twist yarn shop in the Delano district. The address is 607 W. Douglas, and we enter through the back door. Shelly has graciously invited us to enjoy the ambience of her shop and surround ourselves with loveliness and comfort. Let's replace these faces of people enjoying her lounge are with those of our lovely group! Doesn't this look like a wonderful place to hold our meetings? Can't wait to see you all there!

PS: Please remember to bring a few 8" squares to donate to the victims of the California wildfires. We don't even have to assemble them . . . they'll do that for us in California! I will be sending everything we have collected after this month's meeting. Thanks for your help!

New meeting location and a great Dec. meeting

We had a wonderful, if delayed (due to weather) meeting in December. Thanks to everyone who showed up and participated in the gift exchange and brought yummy goodies to eat. Thanks also to all of you who voted for your new board. We are: Tamara Gonzales (left) president, Rosina Smith (right) vice president, and Cori Dodds (center) secretary/treasurer.

We also have made arrangements for a new meeting location, but it is still central to most everyone and only a few blocks from the senior center. Shelly at Twist has most graciously offered the use of her store and lounge area to us as a meeting location! We are so grateful to her and so excited! It is a lovely spot, well-lit, and with a marvelous stitching atmosphere. We will begin meeting at Twist for our January meeting.

Our own Bob Smith (no relation to Rosina) is seen here crocheting one of his famous strawberries. He has made 2025 of them over the past seven years. Many of us have been the beneficiary of his skill and have a strawberry or two hanging in our kitchens.

Finally, we have a couple of charity projects going. First, for local community organizations we are crocheting 9-inch squares for afghans. Linda made several of them, and they are marvelous. We have quite a large pile of 9-inch squares, and will be announcing a time to meet and join them soon.

We are also collecting 8-inch squares for the victims of the California wildfires. They do not need to be joined before we send them and I would like to have a nice-size stack to send off this month. So, dig into your stashes and throw together a couple of squares to bring to the January meeting.

We'll see you at Twist on Jan. 21!

DEC. 10 MEETING POSTPONED

Because of the weather, we will postpone our meetings for Dec. 10 (10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.) until Dec. 17. We will meet at the same time and the same place (Senior Center).

Please mark your calendars for this event. It is sure to be a great time! We will have treats and a small gift exchange. If you were not able to attend the meeting planned for Dec. 10, and can make it to Dec. 17, woo-hoo! Can't wait to see you all!

A fun November meeting

We had really great meetings for the KS My Stitch group. These pictures show some of the members and their completed projects. It's so fun to see what all is going on with everyone.

We also had a few new people, including Judy from Hutchinson, who told us all about the group she crochets with at the rec center and how much charity work they do. It was inspiring.

A new board was also elected to start in January. The board elect is: Tamara Gonzales, president; Rosina Smith, vice president; and Cori Dodds, secretary/treasurer. There are also three committees that the board could use some help with. They are a membership committee, a program committee, and an outreach committee. Please contact any member of the board if you would like to volunteer for one of these committees.

Also, remember that we will be collecting 8-inch afghan squares to send to California. A crochet group in Southern California is collecting them to make afghans for victims of the recent wildfires. With more than 2,000 homes destroyed, there is a great need. Cori will collect the squares at the December meeting and send them to the California group.

And we are still collecting 9-inch and 12-inch squares for our own charity afghans. Please continue to make those as well. We are also in a position to start putting those afghans together and will need some additional help. We would like to possibly meet between our regularly scheduled guild meetings to begin the assembly. We are looking for a place that we might be able to meet that doesn't cost anything. We would also like to meet at a time that is convenient for as many as possible. The assembly meetings may be able to continue on an on-going basis for as long as we are collecting squares. As you can see from the photo below, we have gathered a lot of squares!
